Wisconsin Farm BoyAt an early age, music was a compelling force in Dave's life.  When Dave was 5 his dad bought a soprano ukulele to play and would leave it lying around the house.  Seeing his dad strum some chords and with his father's coaxing, Dave picked it up and learned to accompany himself with it while singing.  At 8 he taught himself to read music when a next door neighbor brought over a 12-bass accordion, promising that Dave could keep it if he was practicing every day.   Though drums were what he wanted to play, when Dave's band director for the sixth grade band was facing handfuls of wannabe percussionists, but only a few cornet players, cornet became the involuntary instrument of choice.  By the ninth grade Dave had made the decision that life as a professional musician was too attractive to pass up.  With state-wide awards and participation in the Wisconsin Honors ensembles, and scholarships offered from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Wisconsin, Dave decided to attend UW-Madison.

SkywayHaving played professionally in polka bands since junior high school, playing opportunities were of a higher profile nature during Dave's college years, not only playing with the university ensembles, but also participating in tours, playing in rock bands of the southern Wisconsin area and performing one summer with the Disney College Kids of the Kingdom in Disneyland, California.

After a stint with a road band touring the midwest, Dave returned to southern Wisconsin as a freelance musician, working with performers such as Meredith McCrae, Tom Wopat, Melissa Manchester, Fabian, Bobby Rydell, playing in multiple circus and rodeo bands, and Ice Capades with Dorothy Hamill.
